List of Best Anime 2023

Cannot believe it’s near the end of the year. This year has been a good year for anime, lots of good anime released this year and lots of hype follows those good anime as well. So here, we will give you our version of the 5 best anime of 2023.

There are a lot of anime that aired this year. Some are new, and the others are additional seasons from the anime that have been aired in previous years. From many anime that got released this year, this list will include some that got spotlight from the internet.

This list will not be based on any kind of ranking or something similar. Without further ado, This here is the list.

1. Oshi no Ko

This anime is about a reincarnation mystery drama series following two characters that reincarnate as the babies of a legendary Idol, AI Hoshino. This anime explores and gives insights into the entertainment industry, especially idol culture, fame, abuse, and to some degree mental illness, and contains some supernatural elements.

This anime got lots of spotlight in the beginning of 2023. Other than good opening by Yoasobi that did grab the attention of the internet, the premise of showing the “dark side” of the idol and entertainment industry in Japan. This premise really made this anime have a lot of fans among other anime that were released this year.

 2. Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End

This anime tells the story of Frieren, an immortal elf who had lived for a thousand years. She joins the adventure group who embark on a quest to defeat the ancient demon. 

After defeating the demon king, Frieren goes on an adventure by herself to find new spells. But because of her immortality, she lost her friends without her noticing. Because of the guilt that she doesn’t know her comrade that much when they live, Frieren began to take on a mage apprentice and set off on adventures during which Frieren revisits her history.

3. Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 can be said as a prequel for Gojo-sensei. Yes, this season is about the past of Gojo Satoru as a student in Tokyo Jujutsu High. The story begins with the case of two students missing while doing the mission. Gojo and Suguru are told by their teacher to find those two students and retrieve them to the school.

Not only does it cover Gojo’s past arc, this season also continues the previous season’s story, which is the Shibuya Incident arc. Highlight of this arc is how Pseudo-Geto plans to weaken Gojo, and the fight between Sakuna using Yuji’s body against Jogo.

4. Attack on Titan Final Season Part 3

Following the events of the previous part, Part 3 tells the story of how Eren’s motives become more clear about the scout regiment that has an internal conflict. The war with Marley and Paradis escalates, Eldian history is exposed, including the truth of the titans.

This anime continues the previous part of final seasons that first release in 2020, followed by the second season in 2022. Lots of people are hyped about this season because it will reveal the fate of our protagonist, Eren Yeager. Some of the fans are disappointed about the ending, since it gives a sad fate for Eren. But not, few say they feel that the ending suits the story, and makes it even better. 

5. Spy x Family Season 2

We are back with Anya and her “family”. Continuing the previous season’s story, this anime still about Loid and Operation Strix. In the beginning of episode 1, this time it start with Yor who got wounded after doing her assassin job.

The next day, Loid takes her on a date, believing her painful mood is his fault, while Anya and Franky tail them. At the restaurant, one of the survivor of Red circus who work at the restaurant recognize Yor and attempt to kill her by using blowfish poison. But the poison numb Yor pain and make her able to enjoy the date.

This season got hyped because of the opening that was played by Ado titled Kura Kura, and the game that will release in 2024 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC called Spy x Anya: Operation Memories. The studio behind Spy x Family Season 2 even has a plan to do a crossover with Street Fighter 6 on January, 9th 2024.
