Pick List: Korean Drama of 2018

Welcome to The Pick List. This is the place where i write about the list of my favourite things according to a certain theme. This time the theme is “Korean Drama of 2018”. Listed below may not contain critically best dramas, because i pick them according to my personal taste.

So, here they are my 3 favourite Korean dramas of 2018.

Misty (JTBC)

Go Hye Ran (Kim Nam Joo) is an ambitious anchorwoman for a popular news show, she is passionate about her job and doesn’t stop until she gets what she wants. Her marriage is getting worse due to her passion for work. One day, she meets an old lover and tangled in a murder case. Her husband Kang Tae Wook (Ji Jin Hee), who is a public defender, decides to defend his wife and fix their failed marriage.

Misty is one of a kind from other Korean dramas, it is mature, dark and intriguing. The characters are well-developed, the story and conflict is intriguing and well-executed.  The suspense is on point, and getting mature from the first episode until last episode.

Mr. Sunshine (TvN)

Mr. Sunshine centers on a young boy named Choi Yoo Jin (Lee Byung Hun) born into a house servant’s family and travels to the United States during the 1871 U.S expedition to Korea. He returns to his homeland later as a U.S. marine officer. He meets and falls in love with an aristocrat’s daughter. At the same time, he discovers a plot about Japan that want to colonized Korea.

This series may go down as one of the most visually-stunning drama. The visual and cinematography are beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time. Not forget to mention the beautiful costumes that are usually showcased in historical drama . The drama managed to weave an epic tale of love and sacrifice with strong groundwork. This one is very well-produced.

Suits (KBS2)

Go Yeon Woo (Park Hyung Sik) is a lawyer with a photographic memory, he works under the supervision of Choi Kang Seok (Jang Dong Gun), an elite lawyer with high winning rate. But Go Yeon Woo has a poor background and doesn’t have a license to be a lawyer. The drama tells a story about they go against crime while hiding Go Yeon Woo’s background.

The drama focus more into the bromance of Go Yeon Woo and Choi Kang Seok instead of romance with female characters and that’s what make this drama interesting and keep going forward without any unnecessary plot twists. The drama is funny, engaging, and also well-scripted.

HONORABLE MENTIONS

So because i think there are also some good dramas which do not enter my list, here is three other dramas that became my favorite from 2018. Well, they can be my B version of the list.

Hwayugi (TvN)

Genre: Drama, Romance, Fantasy, Comedy

Something In The Rain (JTBC)

Genre: Drama, Romance

What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim? (TvN)

Genre: Romance, Comedy
