Review, Ice Age (2002)

Ice Age is more than just a movie. It’s a valuable time spent with family when you were young. This movie is an unforgettable epic adventure for audiences of all ages because of the mesmerizing scenes and the story.

Conveyed through sparkling animation with beautiful visuals, we are presented with the unexpected friendship of three prehistoric creatures, a mammoth named Manny, a playful sloth named Sid, and a mysterious smilodon named Diego. Despite coming from different species, they form a powerful alliance to save and protect a human baby.

Ice Age is an animated movie that presents the epic adventures of its characters in the Pleistocene period, with the earth covered in ice 20,000 years ago.

The story begins with a series of events that bring the three characters together. Diego, originally a member of a fierce tiger pack, is tasked with retrieving the human baby. However, fate leads him to meet Manny and Sid, which eventually leads him to change his initial goal to return the baby to his family.

The three begin to understand each other’s characters on the short journey. Friendships are forged until the glacier slowly breaks, trapping them and nearly plunging them into a sea of fire. That’s when Manny saves Diego with his trunk. This scene was not only emotionally touching for Diego, who was saved from danger, but also for me as a viewer. I felt the warmth of the moment and was reminded of the power of kindness that can change the fate of a living being.

Amidst the warmth of friendship, a secret emerged that made me nod in understanding, as if reminded of the nature of a predator. As expected, Diego betrays Sid and Manny to bring the human baby to his pack to save his pride.

Diego’s betrayal in this movie is not just a dramatic moment in the story.  It’s also a reminder that even if we’re stuck in a bad place in our nature, we always have the power to change the course of our lives for the better.

Ice Age succeeds in presenting a majestic and stunning depiction of the Pleistocene world. From sprawling glaciers to mysterious forests, every scene offers stunning natural beauty and creates an enthralling atmosphere.

The movie has a very light sense of drama, as well as moving and deep emotions, without making the audience feel overwhelmed. The internal conflicts faced by the main characters are diverse and build emotional bonds.

In its 1 hour and 21 minutes, Ice Age manages to present a dense story without sacrificing the beauty of the storyline. Each conflict and its resolution is set with the right tempo, making the viewing experience feel so enthralling.

Ice Age is a fun experience with an epic blend of drama, adventure, friendship, and comedy. Not only is it entertaining, but it also invites us to reflect on global issues that have strong relevance to the current condition of the earth.

This movie managed to bring me to tears, with just a simple ending that was both moving and satisfying. It also teaches us that uniting and working together can overcome obstacles, even in a challenging world.

Our Score 10/10
