Dinosaurs are an ancient animal believed to have inhabited Earth 230 million years ago. The extinction of this species has generated significant interest among various experts, producers, and directors, prompting them to incorporate it as a central theme in a film.
Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs is the third installment in this Ice Age movie series, set in the age of dinosaurs. Where all kinds of dinosaurs live in one place under the surface of the ice, inhabited by Manny and his friends.
The movie begins with the joyous welcoming of a baby mammoth (Peaches) who will be born from the marriage of Manny and Ellie. Amidst the excitement, Diego is anxious about his diminishing abilities and wants to go off in search of his adventure.
However, that’s not the real problem, as the real problem is when Sid finds three eggs and decides to bring them to his home. This causes an uproar, as the mother dinosaur comes and ravages the homes of all the animals that survived the melting glacier.
An epic rescue mission begins with the help of a new friend named Buck. They embark on a journey through a dangerous underground world to find Sid, who was captured by the mother dinosaur.
Thrilling adventures and lurking dangers continue to occur, but the drama in this movie remains light and predictable. Still with the familiar pattern of the “Ice Age” franchise, where characters face challenges, overcome obstacles, and ultimately reach a happy ending.
In terms of humor, this film lacks the element of surprise that makes you laugh out loud. Some of the jokes feel too safe and predictable so that the punchline can still be guessed from afar, which ultimately becomes less effective.
In addition, in the first and second movies, Scrat attracted attention with his ridiculous and outrageous actions. However, the third installment is different, as Scrat’s over-the-top scenes break the rhythm and focus of the movie’s narrative. When scenes that are supposed to be suspenseful or important to the development of the main character appear, they are interrupted by Scrat’s scenes. This distracts attention and reduces the intensity of emotions that should be felt.
Although the humor and compositions are a bit odd to the point of not reaching the expected level of fun, it cannot be denied that the film stands out with its incredible CGI beauty. The stunning details, amazing realism, and breathtaking scenery create a great visual experience, and every movement of the dinosaurs feels so natural and alive.
Overall, the plot is still the same as before, which is not only predictable, but it also becomes monotonous because it keeps repeating itself. However, despite that, Ice Age is still worth watching and entertaining during vacation or leisure time.
Our Score 7/10
