Review, Arifureta Season 2 (2022)

Arifureta From Commonplace to World’s Strongest Season 2 or Arifureta Shokugyou de Sekai Saikyou Season 2 in original Japanese has wrapped up its series with total 12 episodes. It was the second season of the anime with same name and it was slightly better than the first season although the first season was already good enough and entertaining.

The title was first adapted into anime back in 2019. It was originally a light novel written by Ryo Shirakome and Takayaki. The light novel was adapted into anime while the market of Isekai was and is still crowded. The concept of a classroom transported into another world, was no longer surprising.

But there is a big different in the character concept between Arifureta and most of Isekais out there. Arifureta adapts an edgy concept. Hajime, the main character has ability to craft something, the ability that was seen has no use in isekai world before he become an OP (over power) main character.

As the first season ended in a very template way of how isekai anime works. A weak main character was betrayed then worked his way to be the world strongest while gathering his harem. Despite the template story, the anime was well crafted. Each element was created well that they are related to each other. Furthermore, it was entertaining.

Hajime was a different MC (main character) compare to other Isekai’s MC. He looked suave with vest and black coat along with his pistol and iron arm. Myuu is also another character that make this anime different. Despite she actually has no use in the story, but the ‘cute’ gimmick does work.

The second season offers more balance and deepness in the story making, the series is also more stable compare to the first season as the beginning arc. Arifureta season 2 kicks off a while after the end of the first season. Hajime and friends are still in search of defeating labyrinth to acquire a god class magic.

The second season also offers a different side of character development on Hajime. If the first season showed him as the character who wanted to seek revenge against his classmates, the Hajime in second season thinks more about his team. A more thoughtful and mature Hajime. He thinks about how to separate with Myuu, to save their compatriot, and to save Kaori by the end of the series.

But the ending sequence of the second season feels repetitive from the first one. Hajime encounters his classmates then he plan to go on an adventure together with his new teammates to conquer a new labyrinth before the anime ends.

Arifureta From Commonplace to World’s Strongest‘s Season 2 fulfills that need of those who wait for the series after 3 years. It has more emotional moment, more balanced despite it does not have many standout sequences, but the series is still entertaining and pleasant to watch.
