A hot and sensational high school action anime has been causing an uproar in the anime fandom. It’s called Windbreaker, a fully action-packed school life anime that has gained lots of fans around the world due to its captivating animation and smooth flow of fights during the scenes.
Windbreaker, a manga adaptation from 2021, written and drawn by Satoru Nii, tells a story about fights to become the strongest top dog between students and schools in a small shopping district in Tokyo. The ongoing series first aired on April 5, 2024, and received good ratings from viewers until now.
Our main character, Sakura Haruka (voiced by Yuuma Uchida) is known as a lonely yet passionate fighter who aims to be the top dog in Furin High School. The high school is known for its vicious reputation of joining gang fights between other schools. To become a top dog, he joins the Bofurin, a special organization filled with gangsters that beats people for their crimes and protects the town from danger.
During his first day in the town, he meets a fellow scaredy-cat friend called Akihiko Nirei (voiced by Shoya Chiba) and an elegant friend called Hayato Suo (voiced by Koki Uchiyama). He also meets the friendly and responsible leader of Bofurin, the strongest top dog, Hajime Umemiya, who is respected by all the students in Bofurin. Along his road to becoming the top dog, he encounters fights and friendships.
Windbreaker is a really interesting anime. While portraying a similarity with the famous school fight anime, Tokyo Revengers, Windbreaker is also unique and fresh from the anime viewers. Its concept may be a little mainstream, but a good action-packed anime also needs well-deserved praise as well. With various characters that are different yet they can be one because Bofurin excites the viewers and their dynamics between the other rival schools, Shishitoren also never fails the crowd.
At first, Shishitoren’s members beat a high school student from Furin due to his trespassing in their area. This problem led them to fight and accepted a one-on-one duel fight in Shishitoren’s abandoned lair to prove the winner between Bofurin and Shishitoren.
The fights between students are very alluring. How the animators draw their movements are very smooth and each character portrays their feelings well. The production studio did their best in animating the fight scenes. The scenes are very smooth and it keeps getting cooler throughout the episodes. There are also martial arts infused in the anime along with comedy, drama, and school life that are deemed to be relatable for fans.
Characters in Windbreaker are also animated properly and their features are also nice to look at while maintaining their original appearance in the manga. The animator did a good job in animating their good-looking appearance to appeal to the fans more. Cloverworks surely deserves a trophy for serving attractive characters in every anime. Their works in Promised Neverland and Spy x Family also portray beautiful shots of their emotions from the manga too.
Sakura is also a very interesting character. He faces lots of obstacles to reach his goal as the strongest student in town. He will also experience a heavy growth from a loner to a person who has lots of friends accompanying his journey to become a top dog. Additionally, the current leader of Bofurin also captivated many female fans with his leadership skills and charisma for his similarity to Gojo Satoru from Jujutsu Kaisen, a famous anime character as their voice actor voices both of the characters.
Not only that, Hayato Suo also gained lots of love from fans as his calm demeanor won the hearts of female fans. His appearance in Tiktok has also increased with tons of edits showcasing his fight scenes that are mixed with martial arts. His fan edits containing his smooth fights are also popular in Tiktok due to his striking pose. He fights elegantly and only uses his palms which sometimes make him seem like an aristocrat. Hayato also admires Sakura because of his passionate-driven goal to be the top dog.
The opening song of Windbreaker also portrays the hard-working and excited main character and their strong aim to protect the town from all danger that comes into their area. Overall, this anime deserves an award for its smooth animation in fight scenes. Not only shocking the fans with action-packed scenes, the story is also beautiful and a breath of fresh air in the industry. The voice actors are also amazing for their spot-on voice acting and popular voice actors like Nobunaga Shimazaki and Yuuma Uchida.
